BIO: THE EXTERNALIZATION OF INNER FEELINGS:  ART

At the turn of the century, I traded thirty years as an educator and furniture/product designer to become a full time professional artist. I taught at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois and the Kansas City Art Institute at Kansas City, Missouri for fourteen years. I was an “in-house” designer and consultant designer in the furniture industry for twenty six years. I designed metal and wood furniture for the residential and contract industry. I have a patent for a stacking-ganging chair for Fixtures Manufacturing in Kansas City, Missouri. It was a nice career and full time job that served me and my family well, however…

Being an artist has released the joy and creativity in me. I am able to explore the whole visual world, its form, light and color, without the consent of a committee or client. It has and is an enlightening journey. During these last five years, I have received the representation of five galleries: Dallas, Houston, Arlington, Ft. Worth and Mansfield in Texas and in Fallbrook, California. I have been accepted in juried shows including: Friends and Neighbors show, Irving, Texas (2004), Fallbrook Fine Arts Show (2002,2003, 2004), Arlington Visual Arts Association, (2001, 2002), I was included in a four man show sponsored by the Ft. Worth Community Arts Center-Selections from the 2004 Biennial. I exhibited in the Ft. Worth, Texas Jazz Festival and Southlake Art Festival, Southlake, Texas in 2003 and 2004. My work is extensively collected by individuals and businesses within the Ft. Worth/Dallas metroplex. )

My paintings concentrate on form, light and color. There is always a sense of place that sets the context of the painting. That context provides the framework for the design and visual elements of the painting. There is a strong Southwest influence in the paintings and a dominate contemporary look. These two elements, contemporary Southwest, creates a feeling of openness, space, light, and color. I often painted during my design career to define myself and gain the feeling of freedom, joy and perspective of myself. It is my hope that as an owner of my paintings, you will be inspired to those feelings too and also the release of your own.
